From Varchmin to St.Paul, Minnesota

My g-g-grandfather,                                                                                                     Christian Peglow, his wife Caroline and their son Herman emigrated from Varchmin Pommern around 1865.  We also believe other friends (Pittelkows) and family members came with them.  They settled in St. Paul, Minnesota , a city on the banks of the Mississippi River.  During this time there was a very large German population in Minnesota.  My g-grandfather Herman eventually married Ida Scheunert and started a painting business.  He had four daughters and two sons.  His daughter Hilda married a man named Charles Giese and they had one daughter, Mildred (my Mother).  We believe the Giese family immigrated it 1873.  We found a record of them on a passenger list for a ship called the Selesia that sailed from Hamburg and Havre to New York.

Christian Peglow, born 1817 in Varchmin, died 1898 in St. Paul
Caroline Peglow (Pittelkow) born 1818 in Varchmin, died 1880 in St. Paul
Herman Peglow, born 1852 in Varchmin, died 1938 in St. Paul
Ida Peglow (Scheunert), born in 1856 in Hamilton, Wisconsin, died 1940 in St. Paul
Hilda Giese (Peglow), born 1881 in St. Paul, died 1933 in St. Paul
Mildred Nestor (Giese), born 1916 in St. Paul, died 1986 in St. Paul

We are not sure of the route the Peglows took to get to the U.S., nor do we have any information on their lives and history back in Varchmin.  We have a lot of pictures and information about their lives here in Minnesota, but our wish is to find out more about their lives in Varchmin.

Thanks,

Dan Nestor
